Founded by pioneers in 1798, Bowling Green is the county seat of Warren County, Kentucky. There’s some speculation around how the town got its name. One popular story suggests the pioneers who first settled this town near the Barren River decided to name it “Bolin Green,” after New York City’s Bowling Green Square, where patriots destroyed a statue of King George III and used the lead to make bullets to fight the British during the American Revolution. Another story suggests that settlers Robert and George Moore, enjoyed the sport of bowling wooden balls across the green and that is how the town got its name. Mammoth Cave National Park, one of Kentucky’s most famous landmarks, is only 30 minutes away from Bowling Green. Beneath the rolling hills of Kentucky lies a winding series of caves stretching over 420 miles. It’s commonly believed that Mammoth Cave is the world's largest cave system in the world.
